If you are interested in Old Shepherds huts, are restoring one, looking for an original hut or personalised hut accesories, then this is the place to come.
We began to collate photo's and hut manufacturers details after we found our first hut over 11 years ago. Very little if anything was published at that time, even on the internet so we decided to change that in order to help those that also wanted to discover the pleasure that restoring and using a hut themselves.
Interest in our first hut meant it was voted one of the UK's top 10 individually submitted items on the BBC radio 4's 'The history of the World in 100 objects! To view the BBC video click on the link: BBC History or to watch a short video on Hut History we did with Anglia ITV click on: Bygones historic shepherd hut video
We have only scrapped the surface so far and we know there are lots more out there, either restored, sitting in the corner of a field or a wood, or in restoration. Please feel free to contact us If you have one of your own, know of one, or can add some history to a manufacturer that you know of.
The position of any hut remains absolutely confidential unless it is situated on land open to public access, such as a museum, so please tell us about them so we can add a photo and a brief history to our site. If it is manufactured by a company already covered, please still send us details - we now have details of over 350 huts in our archive

Shepherds hut book
We are immensley proud to have assisted Dave Morris with his wonderful new book Shepherd's Huts and Living Vans. This 128 page treasure is published by Amberley and contains 180 illustrations, including the now infamous Leonard Mascal's quote from 1601 referencing a Shepherd hut. We have been credited with a number of images (included the beautiful hut above).
Priced at £16.99 its a fantastic reference for Christmas and beyond, it will be cherished by any 'Huttist' whether practicing, hovering with intent to purchase wood-worm or just a lover of old romantic stuff from days gone by.
- We will include a full review here shortly, as Ian is recuperating from a knee op (non-hut related), and this book came at a perfect time - watch this space!

Hillsidehomespun © - Hut arts and commissions
A brand established in our own Shepherd's hut by Carol McDonald some 10 years ago, we have for the first time brought together a selection of treasures aimed at those who already have a hut, aspire to the cause or just adore the beauty of these nostalgic old ladies.
Reproduced from a selection of watercolours painted by Carol, we have launched a range of greeting cards depicting huts 'as discovered' in their natural environment. Carol is expanding this to include other hut images, and now offers a commission package of an original water colour of your hut, plus 20 high quality cards which you can sell, give to friends or send as personalised greeting cards. See our new Hillsidehomespun and new on-line shop pages. for details.
Shepherd hut scale model kit - 'at last' (and it's a good one)
Finally after being asked numerous times, Hillsidehomespun have managed to source a beautiful scale model construction kit of a typical Shepherds hut. Made in white metal, a steerable axle, draw bar, four cast wheels, steps and even a corrugated tin roof !
To top that, in the trues spirit of authenticity (that you would expect from this site), we have added additional material to line out the hut, create a simulated pitch pine floor and included a one-piece corrugated 'easy paint' card roof - if tin sheet isn't for you.
This is a 7mm/foot scale replica, not a toy - using your imagination, a few basic tools and a little time, you can assemble a personalised replica. It does not require much space, nor a crane to lift it or a lorry to get it home. (Neither will you have to argue with your children why you have just spent their inheritance on rusty iron and rotten wood). However we can help you there also..........
We also have a whole host of accessories for sale including model sheep, shepherd, sheepdog, stove and hurdles - Start your flock by visiting our on-line shop
Please note: The huts on this site are generally not for sale. We are enthusiasts, not dealers. We have had so many requests from people who have a hut they would like to sell or would like one, that we are more than happy take your details and put interested parties in touch.
It's rewarding enough for us to help find them a good home and ensure they are preserved for future generations. If it's help or restoration advice you require, we also have access to a network of artisans and material suppliers. Wood, Carpentry, Blacksmith's, or Tin for the roof, feel free to contact us.
Really - we will try and help if we can! Feel free to e-mail us at mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
or contact us on 01603 759764
